According to Online Adminstrator's Guide (ver 7.2, vol 1) the byte lock
exists solely for
rollforward and rollback execution and is generated only if VARCHAR data
types is being used.
A byte lock is created only in a logging database.
A byte lock appears in onstat -k ouput only if row level locking is being
used.
