You need to write a little C program that does a setuid. When you find a passwd to be invalid, you can then have the user enter a new passwd, verify, and then let the program update the passwd file using the correct C function calls. (These calls will vary if you are running NIS or NIS+. ) Since you want to sync the passwds, you may have to do some more coding (if you are not running NIS.) Another method, is to create a generic client user id with no login. Then create a USER table, with a field for the encrypted passwd. Then when the user logs in to the app, the app has a passwd and you don't rely upon the UNIX security. (Something Sybase does.) -HTH Mikey BTW, the basic program to change passwds is pretty easy. (You could peek at passwd on Linux for help.) If you want to add security, then it gets a little more complex. If you need to make it distributed and are not running NIS, then it gets a lot more complex. ;-) (But its still not rocket science.... :-) -- #include <std_disclaimer.h> /* Mike Segel (MS385) */ #include <No_Spam.h> #ifdef OFFENDED_BY_CONTENT The author takes no responsibility for this post.
