Help on dbworker threads (memory not freed)
Posted in 2011
Topics: Server Administration
Hello friends.
Informix 11.50.FC6W1X7 on linux_64 redhat based machine.
Our machine is running up 52 days, and I have this doubt:
our dbscheduller (dbworker) sessions are using too much memory, without
running anything right now:
onstat -g ath |grep dbWorker106 1628a5b50 15fb7edd0 1 sleeping forever 5cpu dbWorker1
107 1628c2178 15fb7fe80 1 sleeping forever 6cpu dbWorker2
these two threads are related to sessions id below:
30 informix - 0 - 1 10199040 9729488 off
31 informix - 0 - 1 9953280 9594624 off
My question is:
doesn´t dbworker free its unused memory automatically???
It seems it goes up, on and on over time here.
(obs: onmode -F runs frequently here, and nothing changes on these sessions)
Best regards.
Alexandre,
I would recommend bringing your version up to 11.50.FC8, as it contains MANY
bug fixes, among them a few nasty ones that address memory leaks. We were
having the same issue and by moving to 11.50.FC8 it resolved it. I see you are
using a patched version, maybe IBM could add your patch to 11.50.FC8.
Joe

I suppose FC8 (FC8W2 already available) already includes the specific fix
Alexandre is using... But that can be easily verified.
Regards.
