Should I reinstall the informix software from cd or could we just take it up with a tar or ufsdump or something and lay it down on the new server? Our desire is to move the environment exactly as is changing only those things that must be changed... > > thanks in advance With IDS 7.31.FD8/Solaris, there are: /usr/lib/sparcv9/iosm07a.so --> $INFORMIXDIR/lib/iosm07a.so /usr/lib/sparcv9/ipldd07a.so --> $INFORMIXDIR/lib/ipldd07a.so When I was doing something similar to you, I just manually created those links and it was OK. With IDS 9.40, ymmv. If you are using links to dbspaces (and you do, don't you?), you will perhaps need to change them, depending on the data layout on the new server. I prefer cpio to tar for transfer. One of the reasons is that tar once upon a time on some systems did not properly pack some things (like empty directories, if I remember). That probably doesn't hold for tar on Solaris 9 so you are probably safe with it. But I did warn you :) Good luck, Darko Krstic
