dbdiff2 1.4 (Beta)
Posted in 1994
Interesting - I get the most done when I have the most to do. This went out to so many folks I am posting instead of mailing. Known problems to date: 1) Typo in incorporating triggers/procedures o_systabs should be o_systables (corrected) 2) Triggers and Procedures use dump_sql and I screwed up and didn't set the line length to 1024 like Kerry wanted in that routine. Current version uses fold_and_push() instead. 3) Kerry fixed the column adds so dbdiff2 can add a column BEFORE the first old column. I missed that during incorporation. 4) -s1 / -s2 switches don't work in the beta copy (corrected) (thanks Cathy). --- Not resolved: 5) Kerry points out that fold_and_push() double spaces output and can potentially break a line within quotes. This means constraints which use the CHECK clause may mess up. Since I just changed triggers and procedures to use this routine they have the same potential problem. 6) CLUSTERing does not first ALTER INDEX xxxx TO NOT CLUSTER an existing CLUSTERed index. (back burnered). --- 7) Kerry also provided me with RDS versions of the three 'c' routines and the makefile. If there are other errors I would appreciate hearing about them. I would also appreciate hearing from anyone who has used the constraints section. As soon as I get the fixes out for Triggers and Procedures I would appreciate comments on them as well. I will address 5) and 7) within the next day or twelve. Since this was such a popular item I will not email it out, but stick it out on the archives instead. If you HAVE TO HAVE triggers and procedures RIGHT NOW go ahead and write and I'll send the current version which does not yet address these items. Kerry has graciously volunteered to write up sysdefaults as well, and suggests a nicer interface given the increased number of switches to the program. If you have any suggestions for improvements please holler, looks like I can just ask Kerry to do them ;-). cheers j. _____________________________________________________________________________ Jack Parker - Hewlett Packard, BSMC Boise, Idaho, USA jparker@hpbs3645.boi.hp.com _____________________________________________________________________________ "Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people that I had to kill because they pissed me off." _____________________________________________________________________________ Any opinions expressed herein are my own and not those of my employers. _____________________________________________________________________________
