It's a layer of software that will sit on top of an Oracle, Sybase, or Informix server and allow the developer to handle the information as true Objects, rather than as tables/rows and SQL queries. It is very powerful and allows very rapid development cycles. A number of large companies are using it (Swissbank, Chrysler, MCI, etc.) The dowside is that you must be running in some type of NeXT environement. At the moment, this means running NeXTSTEP on Intel, Sparc or HPPA architectures. But by mid-year 96 the OpenStep ports to many OSs should be complete, at which time you will be able to use EOF under Windows NT/ Solaris/ DEC OSF1/HP/UX and hopefully Linux as well if the GNUStep developers can pull it off. For more information see the white pages concerning EOF at http://www.next.com and look at Sun's OpenStep port as part of their probject DOE. Sun has chosen OpenStep/NeXT Object model as the sole Object model for project DOE. The NeXT web page has links to Sun's and DEC's whitepapers. Good luck. -- Joe Panico NeXTStep/OpenStep Developer BLaCKSMITH Inc. jpanico@netcom.com /* Please no NeXTMail, I can't read it at this address */
