Re Query Taking Too Long

Thanks to everyone who responded. I ended up putting two indexes . 1 on disbursements disb_id, loan_type_code 2 on disburse_activity disb_id booked_date General question. Since it is relatively fast to make an index. In this case a half hour. Can't informix automatically make an index when it is optimizing a query? A temporary index for example?
