Semaphores and Task Synchronization

Hi Folks. I'm looking for techniques to perform task synchronization via a 6.0 or 7.1 Online Dynamic Server. Background: I have two processes (on separate hosts) that I'd like to synchronize via the database server. I currently have a table that describes the status of a particular request. Task 1: update status to "running" Task 1: process request Task 1: update status to "complete" Task 2: wait for status to become complete. Task 2: ... I experimented with row locking, but "next row" locking requirements interfered with adjacent requests in the status table. I suppose I could have each request have two adjacent rows in the status table, and only the second one is locked...but that's starting to sound kludgy. I currently have Task 2 polling for the results. I'd like to change this because "poll" is a four letter work in my book. :-) Thanks for any info. -Robert -- Robert J.
