Re: On-Line 7 Performance
Posted in 1997
We are using OnLine 7.1x.xx (two different versions) on SCO Unix 3.2.4.2 and 5.0.0d and generally have good performance. I had 5.x only for a short while and realy started with Online 6.x so I can't compare the performance to that version. Also we don't yet have it on multiprocessor machines. On the dual machine you would probably want to test it with a single processor setting. Still OnLine 5.x might outperform version 7.x in this case. The quad pentium you might be able to tune to use multiple processors and gain performance from it. The processors aren't very fast though, so may be you will get CPU bound. It has been said that the 7.x engines performs at their best with more than 4 processors. So far this has been a problem with SCO Unix as such machines have been very expensive. Compaq and others have however announced availability of 8 processor machines later this year, so may be the prices will come down and we can see top notch performance in this area as well.
