syscolval table

we recently upgraded both 4gl and sql from 4.00.UH1 to 7.20.UD2, and moved from an old DEC ultrix box to a DEC alpha. it was quite a leap, and we dinosaurs have a lot to learn still. however, one little problem in particular is really nagging at us (because all the users are whining), and that is that none of our default values entered in the syscolval table seem to work any longer on the screen forms. is there a switch or something that we forgot to flip somewhere? thx in advance for any help. dsl@one.net

There are a number of factors to consider. First of all, was the syscolval
table migrated from the old database to the new. If you did the jump in situ,
or if you did dbexport and dbimport, then you are probably OK. If you did the
transfer manually, did you remember to transfer the syscolval table. I've
forgotten to transfer it in days long past, much to my irritation -- I now
usually remember because I got burned once. Secondly, did you have the
information in place when you recompiled the forms? If not, then the form
compiler didn't do anything with the defaults because there weren't any at the
time it was run.
If neither of those applies, then did you rename any tables? Renaming a table
will break the association in UPSCOL / FORM4GL. Failing all these, then you
may yet have a bug. However, I tested with a simple form on Solaris 2.6 using
I4GL-RDS 7.20.UD1 and it detected both the reverse attribute and the left
attribute that I'd set on a column - actually customer.customer_num in a
stores database.
