NewEra with multiple connections

I have a developer who is working with NewEra on windows. He has tables on a local SE (for windows), and wants to also access a remote database. It appears in reading the I-Net manual, that I-Net can only handle one protocol at a time. Since the local uses unnamed pipes, and the remote would be via TLI, it appears as though what he wants to do is not possible. Are my assumptions correct?? Is it possible to use TLI on a local loopback on the local client (I don't believe so, since SE-Windows appears to only support unnamed pipes). So, how can this be done?? Any suggestions??
