Re: multiple vs single instances

Hallo, there is certainly not "the single answer" to this question. It depends on the type of interaction between the databases. If you really depend on one instance and other may fail without you need to be in panic I would put the first type of databases in a "24*7 up"-instance ( as small as possible ) and the rest into a "nice to be up" instance. With the actual releases you are able to back up and restore on a per DBSPACE basis. If you increase the number of instances your possibilites concerning "tmpdbspaces","locks", and s.o. will even with plenty hardware somewhere unneccesssarily limited. As a rule of thumb I would suggest no more than 2 Instances on a 1-3 CPU system, on larger systems I still would suggest not to many more cpuvps than Prozessors. Klaus Nonne nsi007@aol.com
