The "SECRET" utility that Informix uses to "free" such hangs was called "tbzero". tbinit ( now oninit ) would hang while in fast recovery mode looking for the last checkpoint entry in the logical logs. tbzero would "flush" all transactions in the logical logs by ignoring their contents and placing a checkpoint record at the beginning of the logical log.
