With regard to the text below: I have tried creating a type of maxlen=10 and it will not take more than 8. Is the size restriction imposed by the server before it passes the data to the input/output functions ? If so, why is it only alowing maxlen-2 this seems inconsistent with Programmers Guide 10.6, and why is it not truncating as per 10.6. I still do not understand why there appears to be a 6 byte overhead (above the maxlen which itself appears to have a 2 byte overhead) for an opaque type. Hoping some-one can help. Given the status of various pre-existing software components, it may NOT be permitted to make changes/additions to these types. It may help if I can clearly show that this type is at fault. It looks to me that maxlen 386 should be Ok.
