Any issues with Verion 5 to 7 Upgrades?
Posted in 1995
The client that I am working for has a need to upgrade to Version 7 of Informix for a another project. Since the two projects will share the same physical processor (HP9000 Running HPUX 9.04), the client wishes to upgrade to Version 7. The project that I will Administer will be a reporting system receiving daily transactions (batch) from a legacy system (expected 200MB per day). Daily transactions will be kept fo 120 days after which monthly summarries will be available on the server. (Pretty basic system consisting of approximately 60+ look up tables used in report generation and calulations, in addition to daily and monthly tables). My question, is, that since we are currently in a design phase are there any issues that I should be aware of in converting from Version 5 to 7. Prior to the conversion I hope that I receive the V7 Manuals and we should have our first release of the Database implemented for development and coding. Any pitfalls of enhancements to V7 that I should be aware of that might affect my DB Design and/or performance? One other , more generic question, this will be my first project implementing multiple instances of INFORMIX On-Line. Since the V5 DBA Manuals states that the initial configuration should use between 20 and 25% of base memory, what would the memory requirements be for each additional instance of the engine? Thanks in Advance for any replies. Regards, -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Robert J.
