detached indexes

Unfortunately the answer is a definite: maybe! Maybe if you have multiple CPUs. Maybe if the dbspace you detach the index to is on a different spindle from the table and the controller is not too overloaded. Maybe if that drive is on a different controller. Maybe if you use PDQPRIORITY. YMMV so you will just have to try and benchmark and SET EXPLAIN several of your own typical queries to find out. Art S. Kagel
