Re: Trapping home and end keys in 2.1

Terry and Mark, You guys are jumping into this thing pretty far without resolving some of the basics that could be affecting things. I would like to help - termcap is one of my hobbies. Can you answer some basic questions for me? - what is the terminal and are you using terminal emulation software, if so what. - what is the TERM setting - Does that version of 4gl support $INFORMIXTERM and if so what is that setting - can you post the termcap definition in question. - what is the exact behaviour when you press these keys (home you said did a home followed by a tilde (~), followed by informix trying to redraw the screen from the wrong position - understandable) - if, from the command line, you do: cat | od -cx HOME CTRL-D What happens? Do you get the value of the HOME key, or does the terminal home and give you 0000000? - What does your man page on termcap or terminfo give for EN?? To my knowledge there is no such capability. Normally termcap defines kh and kH as the home and end keys. These definitions describe what the keyboard will send when either of these keys are pressed. (This is true of all k... capabilities). termcap then defines a ho and ll as the actual sequences to return to accomplish the HOME or END operation. If the terminal is capable of direct cursor addressing (cup) then cup will be used in preference to ho and ll. The presence of a tilde in your output points strongly to your terminal actually using the ho capability instead of cup. You should also know that Informix DOES use most of the termcap entry. They do have their own curses library - so they don't use the standard Unix one - hence the ZA and ZG strings and the off-standard naming of function keys higher than 10, not to mention the function key offset. cheers j. _____________________________________________________________________________ Jack Parker - Hewlett Packard, DMD/IS Boise, Idaho, USA jparker@boi.hp.com Currently on loan to PLD/PE _____________________________________________________________________________ If anything can go wrong, fix it.
