Re: Informix Automatically Changes Link Types from Symbolic to Hard...

Are you doing that 'compile globals.4gl' bit inside the i4gl/r4gl environment? The actual compiler does nothing to the source file -- it does not behave as you suggest. You can demo that by typing fglpc globals.4gl (with "ls -l" on either side). [If it did do it, then you have a very non-standard version, and it is time to upgrade; but I would be absolutely astounded. There will also be no record of it in the source code -- it would be a weird, platform-specific modification] With more or less current versions of i4gl/r4gl, the problem does not reproduce, but this could have been fixed when the i4gl/r4gl code was reworked to use the c4gl script in version 4.12/6.00. I don't have ready access to any version older than 4.12.UE1, so I can't test that. Yours, Jonathan Leffler (johnl@informix.com) #include <disclaimer.h> Tested with file basic.4gl: GLOBALS DEFINE i INTEGER -- Comment END GLOBALS And with symbolic link: ln -s basic.4gl globals.4gl Also tested with basic.4gl in parent directory. Also tested in both configurations with modifications to file, both with and without errors in the modified file. Nothing reproduced the problem. }From: cliff@ktl.com (Cliff Warrington) }Date: Tue, 19 Mar 1996 20:22:22 GMT }X-Informix-List-Id: <news.22287> } }I've discovered a interesting an annoying problem with Informix r4gl }RDS compiler it converts files linked with symbolic links to files }with hard links. } }Software: } Unix SCO 3.2v4.2 } INFORMIX RDS v4.10.UC4 } ONLINE v5.00.UD5 } }eg. } } 1) Create a symbolic link to a file. } ln -s ../../lib/4gl/globals.4gl globals.4gl } } 2) check link with. } ls -l globals.4gl } } 3) Compile globals.4gl } } 4) check link again } ls -l globals.4gl. } } Hey presto it's changed to a hard link !!!... } }Can anybody throw any light on why it does this ????
