Crossing boundary of 8 extents creates not only degradation of performance, but also reveals a bug: SELECT .... WHERE FIELD < 0 returns error where table has more than 8 extents and FIELD is DECIMAL. When table fits in 8 extents, that query works perfectly well. Workaround: use WHERE FIELD+0 < 0 Platform: SCO Unix, Informix OnLine 5.00 and 5.01 too. Michal Hobot doctorq@sam.nask.com.pl
