Migration and patches

Hi, I have a question, We have the version 11.50F8 of Informix Server running on HPUX. We want to move towards the last "F" of the 11.50, ie 11.50 F9. (The movement to later versions is not possible in the short term due to various validations that we have to do with many programs and connections drivers.) My question is whether this movement is considered an "upgrade" as such, or just be an update patch. I mean sysmaster database should not be altered, nor the metadata should change nor should there be risk of corruption. Please, provide any clues acording your experience. Thanks, Roger
Roger: AFAIK, 11.50.FC9 isn't released yet (at least it wasn't as of two weeks ago when I checked for a client). That said, a minor version upgrade is normally not disruptive. Most of the time sysmaster, sysadmin, sysutils, and sysuser are not rebuilt - however, sometimes they are. There's no way to know before actually running the upgrade without reading the release notes and asking support. An upgrade I just did between .FC7 and .FC8 did not do so. However, I always drop and recreate all data distributions even for a minor version upgrade. I find that bit of paranoia avoids problems down the road and the only downside is the possibility of some additional downtime before applications can be brought offline. Art Art S. Thanks Art, Is the same for the letter "W" ? For example F9 to F9W3 is considered a migration ? Regards, Roger
X's and W's are bug fix patch releases. So no changes in internal structures are likely. Art Art S.
