Hi, I have an application I am trying to get running - Bedework. It's an open source scheduling system for universities. Anyway, I keep running into restrictions because the database is set to a 2KB page size. However, we are on HPUX 11i and the default page size is 4KB. Does anyone know how hard it is to change the database page size to 4KB and where I can find info on how to do it? I did see this. How To Use Configurable Page Sizes Mark Scranton/IBM/Denver World Wide Informix http://www.iiug.org/idug05/K2.pdf So can I do an archive, drop the database and recreate it using larger pages sizes in my dbspaces? Without the accompanying lecture there are some holes. Thanks, jim

First, what version of IDS are you using? Configurable page size is
first available in IDS 10.00 and later releases. If you have a 7.xx
or 9.xx release you cannot use larger page sizes than 2K.
Second, the DB page size and the system memory page size are mostly
independent (indeed only on Windoze and AIX did Informix/IBM find any
reason to set the default page size to anything but 2K in the past -
in both cases due to limitations on performance when making kernel
function accesses).
Third, if you have a supported version, you cannot just set the
pagesize and do a restore. Pagesize in IDS is an attribute of a
dbspace. You have to create one or more dbspaces using the new page
size (2k, 4k, 8k, 16k, or 32k) and then move your database or tables
into the new dbspace(s). If you really want the entire DB to resize
in say one or more 4K dbspaces you can perform a dbexport with -ss,
edit the schema file to modify the table locations (INTO <dbspacename>
clauses) if you use more than one dbspace and dbimport the database
into its new initial 4K dbspace. If you just have particular tables
that would benefit from larger page size - for example rows wider than
2020 bytes or rows whose size causes significant waste on a 2K page or
indexes with high duplication levels that can benefit from fewer IOs -
then you can just use ALTER FRAGMENT to move the table to the new
dbspace(s).
