You don't need both I4GL Dev and I4GL R/T on the same machine. As long as I4GL, I4GL-RDS, I4GL-ID and ISQL are at the same level, the order in which you install them doesn't matter -- within the group of four products. If the versions are slightly different, install the higher numbered version after the lower numbered. Have you considered using two separate INFORMIXDIRs - one for the server, and a separate one for the tools? This obviates the install order issue - you install the tools in whatever order you like in their INFORMIXDIR, and IDS in its own separate INFORMIXDIR. Life only gets tricky if you decide to install CSDK too. Should that go with the tools or with the server (or both), and in which order should it be installed? I'd probably install along with the server, and maybe also with the tools. I'd look at the release dates on the software and install in increasing date order. -- Jonathan Leffler #include <disclaimer.h> Email: jleffler@earthlink.net, jleffler@us.ibm.com Guardian of DBD::Informix v2003.04 -- http://dbi.perl.org/

Can you (or someone else) expand on that please Jonathan? I always install them both and now have this sinking feeling that I'm missing something fundamental and should have known better.
