Re: Delete Logical Logs

As Neil says, you need a minimum number of logs. Also, you may need to do a
level 0 archive and be in quiescent mode to remove them. Once they are used
(U) you can never get them back to F unless you do a system restore ( a bit
drastic under the circumstances ).
As far as log sizes go, how big do you want them ? How big is your database
? How many transactions will be processed per day ? Are you using logging on
the database ?
Are you going to be doing continuous archiving of the logical logs ? If so,
then you don't necessarily need a lot ( depending on how often they fill,
how big your tape device is etc...). 20 x 8MB is fine for this - but
remember - if you are NOT continuously archiving the logs then you WILL need
more space. In this case start with 100 x 8MB logs and monitor closely.
Logical logs are a very application dependant thing and should not be taken
lightly - consider your archiving strategy and when you intend on archiving
them - very important.
Know this, if your engine hangs for no reason whatsoever, it will be that
your logical logs are full !!!
