Best Practice to upgrade edition (not version)

I have a system currently installed with 12.10FC8W1 Express Edition (OS is Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3 x86_64). I need to change the Informix Edition to be Workgroup but I am staying with the same version. What is the recommended way to accomplish this - is it still to install to a new INFORMIXDIR and then just start the existing instance using the new INFORMIXDIR? Are there any objects in the instance that would need to be upgraded or changed with an edition change? I feel like this should be covered in the docs but all I found was version upgrade info. If I've overlooked it, please let me know! Thanks -Pete McDonnell
Treat an Edition upgrade just like a version upgrade. Just install in a new INFORMIXDIR, configure it copying the critical entries from the existing ONCONFIG file, copy the sqlhosts file (unless you are using INFORMIXSQLHOSTS to point to a file not stored in INFORMIXDIR), shudown the existing instance, point whatever symbolic link you are using as the actual INFORMIXDIR to the new installation (that should also take care of PATHs and library paths, etc), and restart the instance. Just start the instance with the other binaries.
There should not be any conversion if you stay at the same version,
you should adjust the buffers/shared memory for the new possibilities in
comparison to express edition....
( 12.10FC8WE, also with patched version W1 (we have a W2 version, but I don't
remember what was fixed)).
Shutdown old instance, save the content of informix directory in an archive,
install the new version in same dir, make sure you have the correct version of
onconfig, sqlhosts, alarm shell script and start it with oninit.
