Uni-processor & SMP question
Posted in 1998
Hello All, I had initiated the following query five days ago. No one has responded yet. I am re-initiated my request in the hope that someone can provide me insight into this matter. Thanks!!! We currently have a production system running on RS-6000 uni-processor with AIX 3.2, Informix 5.05. The development machine is a separate, identical uni-processor with matching AIX and Informix versions. Therefore we are able to compile, test and 'user accept' all 4gl, .per, .c and .ec programs on the test system and move only the executables to production machine. We now plan to upgrade the production machine to a 4-way SMP S-70 machine. The environment on the new SMP machine would be as follows --> AIX 4.3, Client sdk v2.02.uc2 - replaces esql, 4gl 7.20.ud2, sql 7.20.ud2, 4gl rds 7.20.ud2, 4gl id 7.20.ud2 - Debugger, ids 7.24.uc5 - Online. If possible, we would like to keep the uni-processor as our test system to save on cost. ====== Questions ?????? - Can we compile on a uni-processor and move the executables to the SMP machine? If yes, will there be any difference in performance or behavior of the code if the compilation is done on the uni-processor as opposed to the SMP? - Do the AIX and Informix versions need to be absolutely identical on the uni-processor and the SMP? I thank you all for any insight you can provide into this matter.
