(if you will allow me to comment with my lack of knowledge of other products - Microsoft, DB2, etc. - and limited experience on Oracle) We are currently running 2 db's over here, Informix and Oracle (with Oracle Apps). I must also say that our environment is not static, but very dynamic - the app changes on a continuous basis. And what I have noticed about Oracle Apps, is that the Oracle dba never has a lack of problems - the environment is very unstable. Now this could be true of other applications as well, in an environment like ours, but I am just commenting on our experience with Oracle. They are continuously patching Oracle Apps, as the "upgrades" take place, due to bugs they run into. I get the feeling that you get more functionality with Oracle, but along with that you get many more bugs (and more work). My collegue has commented that, if given the choice, he will never work on Oracle Apps, only on the database. sending to informix-list
