What are the differences between RDS and 4GL ??

As you may have noticed from some of my posts, I'm begging for info. The current question centers around lots of talk about 4GL and RDS. I'm looking into Informix as a relational database solution, including storing and retrieving data from AutoCAD. Some of the other things I'll need (most for data manipulation outside of AutoCAD) will require one of 4GL and RDS (Rapid Development System). Time is a crutial factor, as I have 30 days to get a good feel (ie hands on eval) of which components I need. After all that, what are the differences between these two developer's components.
