Hi, I have a Oracle table that rowsize large than 32K, if I split this table into some small table, the parnter need to change lots of code,Could we have any method to change the size of column rowsize in systables when doing the IDS installation? do it has any additional risk?the rowsize large than 128K could meet the requirement. Any information would be welcomed. thanks

The maximum row size in Informix is 32K, for structured data. If you have unstructured data, it should go outside the table space. If your structured data in a single row is >32K, you should take your partner outside and kick his head in. -- Cheers, Obnoxio The Clown http://obotheclown.blogspot.com I will now proceed to pleasure myself with this fish. -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by OpenProtect(http://www.openprotect.com), and is believed to be clean.

Your rowsize doesn't include any binary objects? Note that binary objects can be kept "outside" the table and only a reference (IIRC it's 56 bytes) is kept "inline". Note that "outside" of the table doesn't mean outside of the database... The maximum rowsize in Informix is 32765 bytes PERIOD! End of discussion! Besides, why would anyone want a table with a row that is as HUGE as 128K anyway? To borrow an appropriate attitude from the Clown: What idiot designed that table in Oracle in the first place? This smacks of a table with several "comments" columns that are defined in Orable as large VARCHAR2 types. A VERY POOR design. The comments should have been designed as a child tabls with a key, a reasonably sized CHAR type comment field (say 70 or 100 characters) and a sequence number to allow a virtually unlimited number and volume of comments, heck, if you make the sequence number a INT you could have 280GB of comments per parent record and if it was a BIGINT then 645 EtaBytes of commentary. That's 6000 times the 128PB of data that Informix can currently hold. Art Art S.
