Getting started

I just loaded Informix SE for Linux and now I'm stuck. I can't make a connection form Informix to ApplixData. Under dbaccess I created a couple of different database names, but don't have the foggiest idea of how to create fields within the new database. By the way, I know nothing about SQL . My only experience with a database is Lotus Approach. Also, is there someone out there that could design the database I need? If anyone is interested, or maybe can even give ma alittle guidance can call me at 888-702-2738 any time between 9am to midnight EST.
