Informix <-> Oracle export/import of tables?

Hello folks.
I am cross posting this to both the Informix and Oracle newsgroups and
listservs to get the largest possible audience for my inquiry.
I am currently designing a system that needs to extract data from an
existing Informix database running on a Motorola UNIX machine. It is
Informix 4.00 SE, and it does have INET 4.0 drivers installed. We have
this machine networked on TCP/IP.
What I would like to do is fairly trivial in theory and I believe must
have been done before by many. I would like to somehow access these tables
on the Informix database FROM the Oracle database.
My goal really is to be able to do this type of SQL:
insert into calldetail@oracle
select * from calldetail@informix
where calldetail@oracle is the local database table on the Oracle V7 RDBMS
(A/UX based machine currently) and the calldetail@informix is the remote
table.
I understand that I will at least need to have INFORMIX-NET drivers loaded
on the machine where Oracle resides. What I am still researching is what
is the most elegant way to achieve this type of SQL. Are the Transparent
Gateways for Oracle available for Informix? Or am I going to have to write
a custom program that will extract the data from Informix and turn around
and insert it into Oracle?
I am sure that this has been done before somewhere. Currently I have a
design that will dump flat-file ASCII files from the Informix database and
then I can use SQL*Loader to import them into the Oracle db but this is a
bit too clumsy for me. I would like to be able to 'pull' the data and
schedule all of these actions FROM the external Oracle database.
The thing that makes this a bit more difficult is that we cannot install
any more software on the Informix database because the computer that it
resides on is really an Aspect CallCenter and Aspect does not want any
other software running on top of their own stuff (middleware like
SequeLink). So I will have to do with INET by itself on the client
machine.
Any ideas? Please reply via private email or post publicly if your
experience would be useful to others. I will most gladly summarize to the
net if I get some interesting replies.
Thanks much,
