Your physical log file is too small. If you look at the 'onstat -l' output, you
see that the physical log is 75% full. Any time physical log gets to 75%, it
forces a checkpoint. 500 pages is a very small physical log, hence it fills up
very quickly. Also, for performance reasons it is best to move your physical
log out of the root dbspace and into a dbspace of its own. At the same time,
you can expand the physical log. Of course, if 500 pages reaches 75% in one or
two seconds, you'd have to make a very large (~50,000 pages) to get your
checkpoints about two minutes apart.
