RE: Recommended Install Order (version 10)
Posted in 2005
I finally received my copy of version 10 (10.00 FC3R1). I just went through my "knowledge base" for the order of installation, as the latest version I've officially worked with, was version 9.21 Does the rule of TEN apply for installing version 10 ? I see from Art's reply below that people still follow the rule, even though it sounds like it doesn't really apply any longer, but I just want to check my facts properly. Practically, most of us still follow the rule of TEN (no Obnoxio, the SDK does not get installed last because of this rule but due to the version modifier rule:) but modified by a new rule introduced also some time ago, that newer versions (by version # not production date) of anything should be installed after earlier versions. So since the engine is 7.31 or 9.2/3/4 it gets installed after ISQL or I4GL which are only up to 7.31 (so if the engine is 7.31 rule of TEN overrides). Since the SDK is at version 9.81 (or at least the ESQL/C it contains is) or so it gets installed after the engine. Art S.
