Thaks much, Kris!
You hit that one on the head, sorta... Both service names for the
share-memory-connections were "dummy". I added prefixes (prefices? ;-)
and changed these dummy service names as below:
bcbgshm onipcshm fb01 bcbg_dummy
bcbgsoc onsoctcp fb01 bsoc
bctestshm onipcshm fb01 bctest_dummy
bctestsoc onsoctcp fb01 bctest_svc
and it changed the circumstance. This is where the "sorta" comes in:
After starting my test instance, the bctestshm server, I go back to
the production window (running the bcbgshm server). Now the 761 error
does not happen. It goes directly to the 25588 error. As before,
the 25588 problem persists [on bcbgshm] even after I have knocked
down the bctestshm server. I had to bounce the bcbgshm server again.
Fortunately, I was able to - Yesterday, I couldn't get rid of one
zombie shared memory segment.
BTW, in case it is relevant, here is the tail end of /etc/services:
bsoc 2500/tcp # Informix communication port
bctest_svc 2501/tcp # Informix test bed communication port
And no, these numbers do not conflict with any other service.
So, I still need solutions, ideas, bugs, workarounds. HELP!
