We are upgrading a SE 5.0, I4gl 4.3 to IDS7.30 uc5, I4gl 7.20. Is there any thing concerning smallfloats that we need to know execpt that it is now a float. The scale is much larger, will it cause us any problems. We are seeing some scales that should be .00 that are .000001000000 Thanks for you help carl

I guess that's I4GL 4.13; there isn't a 4.30 AFAIK. > Is there any thing concerning smallfloats that we need to know > execpt that it is now a float. Actually, all versions of both DBMS handle FLOAT and SMALLFLOAT as distinct types. Unless you have a good reason to change your SMALLFLOAT types into FLOAT, I wouldn't bother to do so. > The scale is much larger, will it cause us any problems. I'd avoid such problems by using DECIMAL instead of either float type. How are you doing the upgrade? Are you doing DB-Export followed by DB-Import? What would happen if you took a copy of the SE database and used ALTER TABLE to change the SMALLFLOAT columns into FLOAT? It would probably produce much the same inconsistencies in the values. -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@informix.com, jleffler@earthlink.net) Guardian of DBD::Informix v0.60 -- see http://www.perl.com/CPAN #include <disclaimer.h>
