Onarchive creating a volume

I'm real new to the Informix arena so bear with me. I am trying to backup the logical log files in Informix. I created a vset, which seemed to go ok, but when I try to create a volume it gives me the following error. ARC-I-01098, Not an ONARCHIVE volume. Proceed and overwrite contents, Cancel operation, or Retry with another volume? Enter (P/C/R): This is all fine and dandy, and the book shows this, but it never asks me to Initialize this volume. If I proceed, it says that it created a volume, and I can see the new volume, but when I go to backup, I get the error: ARC-I-01098, Not an ONARCHIVE volume. Cancel operation or Retry with another volume? Enter (C/R): I'm kinda at a loss here, so any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
