Informix 7 / HP - progress!

Here's some more on the growing saga of Informix 7 and HP, yet this is positive news. On 7.12, HPUX 10.01, has anyone noticed that the Shared Memory parameter total at the bottom eof the screen advising you what memory Online promises to steal, does not in fact compe anywhere close to being what it actually takes. On screen it showed us 67 meg was to be allocated, but when we typed in a total memory figure of 1 Mg (just for the hell of it), investigation of the log (after it woudn't intitialize), showed it trying to allocate a lot more Resident + Virtual > Total We had 400 Mg + 8 Mg > 1 Mg. Where the 400 Mg came from we don't know as the screen said 67 Mg. The result of all this, which has been the bane of our lives for nearly 8 months now, was that far too much shared memory was being allocated, and as users joined the fray, so the machine started swapping like a mad-man. We don't know yet if this was our only problem but it is one to watch out for.
