CORBA on IDS 7.3 ?

Hi ! Not long ago my company received long awaiting IDS 7.3. for Win NT and I was greatly astonished when VisiBroker (CORBA ?) services were installed on my comp after its installation. Does it mean that Informix goes the same way as Oracle ? For what kind of operations (kernel, interserver connections etc.) that services are used ?.
