Run: grep 46 /usr/include/sys/errno.h On Solaris 2.6, that gives: #define ENOLCK 46 /* No record locks available */ The error messages between 1 and 99 (and/or -1 and -99) are system errors. Sometimes, the system errors extend up into the C-ISAM error space (eg EISCONN 133 on Solaris 2.6). So, if you get an error which makes no sense, try going to /usr/include/sys/errno.h and see whether the message associated with the number makes more sense there.
