But now, I don't understand the "client/connection" anymore... Hello, Untill yesterday, working with Delphi 2/3 (on the client side), it was fine. Yesterday's steps: a-have the server (UNIX) with network products(I have 7.14 no problem the connection side is already there). OK! b-Get Informix-Connect, set the parameters with "SET-NET 32". OK c-Test the connection with I-Login. OK! d-Configure DELPHI BDE( a layer for the development envir.) OK Done. I have client/server connection Today's steps (I want to use JDBC): a-JDBC works with ODBC, so the first step is to install an ODBC driver. This is partly true. However you are referring to the ODBC-JDBC bridge, which requires that you install odbc drivers. PURE JDBC does not need odbc drivers. . Search the Javasoft web site you will find a lot more information about the various types of JDBC drivers out there. After the Installation of Intersolv DataDirect, I configure the ODBC driver. The ODBC configuration tells me that I need..."INFORMIX-NET" 7.1 or higher??? (I already had my Informix-Connect/ESQL/C 7.2 installed) Question A: What is Informix-Net?? Question B: On my client I have Informix-Connect/ESQL/C 7.2 what else do I need? Question C: On the Informix Web server, Informix-Connect is not there anymore. Do I need to get Informix-CLI? Question D: Since Informix-CLI is an ODBC driver, I could purchase CLI or any other ODBC from any vendor? Yes you could use any Odbc driver. I have used both Intersolv's as well as Openlink's drivers. By the way, the ODBC driver that is called CLI is allso written by Intersolv. Question E: Looking at documentation(on the Web) of Informix-CLI, it requires Informix-Net (at least wersion 5.x) But what is Informix-NET??? Good question. Informix should really try hard to make this less confusing. Unless they want people to be confused. They talk of Informix - Connect, Informix - NET amd Informix-CLI. I have seen this question asked a million times . Informix says they have a 'Native' connection called Informix-CLI. But really when you install it you will realize that it is nothing more than another odbc driver. They use microsoft Odbc's sql.h and sqltypes.h header files. Which means the CLI functions are identical to ODBC if not the same. (check their manual) . Sorry for the "many" questions, but I thought that once I had Informix-Connect I could get any ODBC driver (or CLI since it is an ODBC) and Run..... YES.
