DB Restore From HDR Files

Hi, We are using IDS 11.50 FC6 & 11.50 FC7 on solaris sparc. We have tested the following Case 1: We've shutdown HDR and taken its dbspace files (OS files) and re-stored (using oninit -v -S) it to another machine/instance, and it was successful. Case 2: While the HDR was operational, we've done the same process and again the re-store was successful. I would like to know how much reliable this technique is to take/restore backups from HDR, as we are evaluating external backups strategy (from HDR)? Thanks.
