Problems with Online 5.0 optimizing stupidly...

Has anyone else found that 5.0 (and its new improved optimizer) is "stupider" than the 4.1 engine??? It seems that 5.0 doesn't choose the use indexes specifically created for a query (we've found that leading the engine by the hand is the best way...) and does nifty sequential searches and stuff.
