Database Consistency

Hello, I am currently in discussion with one of my customers regarding the consistency of the data within their Informix database. The system in question is a document imaging and workflow system with the database currently at 23Gb on magnetic and about 30Gb on optical. There is a besopke application running on 80 workstations and about 10 server programs accessing the database 6 days/week from 08:00 to 21:00. My question to you nice people out there is, what percentage of data inconsistency would you expect from a system. I seem to be having trouble convincing my customer the no software is 100% bug free and they will get some inconsistency in their data. Have there been any studies or papers written on the acceptable levels of inconsistency within a database. Any pointers to information on this subject will be gratefully received.
