Questions: Informix upgrade from 7.24 sun2.6 to IDS 9.4 sun 2.8

Current: Informix 7.24 Sun 2.6 Question: I have 7.24 on sun 2.6 and I want to go to 9.4 on sun 2.8. How do I get there? Here are my thoughts, need to know if I'm right. Scenario one: 1. create new sun2.8 server and install 9.4.UC3(sun 2.8) 2. Install 9.4.UC3(sun 2.6) on my current 2.6 server. 3. Upgrade 7.24 to 9.4.UC3 on current 2.6 server 4. Shutdown database. 5. connect arrays from 2.6 server to my new 2.8 server and bring up Informix 9.24(sun2.8) 6. Walla, I'm done, works for me. Will this work? Is this the right way? Is there a better way? Scenario two. 1. create new sun2.8 server and install 9.4.UC3(sun 2.8) 2. connect arrays from my old 2.6 7.24 database server to my new 2.8 server and upgrade. Will this work? Should I upgrade on the same platform before moving to a different os? Scenario one sounds like the safer way but I'm not even sure that's right. I have to be correct on this one. Not without pain. I'm reaching out to everyone to get this one right. Appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks.

Hi bro, First step: backup your data !!! I'd do the following: - backup data on 2.6 (ontape) - export from 2.6 (IDS 7.31) - import in 2.8 (IDS 9.4) - check everything works fine on 2.8 (as an additional security step, I'd leave 2.6 data as a backup for some days, just in case you run in trouble with 2.8 and need to rollback changes...) Your scenarios are too risky. Try to avoid them. Hope it helps.
