We have found that, using normal Informix databases, the performance is miserable compared to using independent disks. The only thing that we could do to try and improve performance was to minimize disk head movement. Once we have HP-UX 9.0 installed, we will be separating them into independent mode and using HP Mirror/UX to do the mirroring part - this provides us with much more flexibilty, especially as it enables us to spread the disk I/O load more or less evenly across the disks/disk pairs.
