Is it Possible to ...?

Does anybody know if it is possible to have popup selection criteria within a construct. For example, we have several categories and sub categories that a user would want to query on. Therefore, can I popup a list of all of the possible selections and populate a field with the information from the popup? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
