I think it stands for Call Level Interface (yes, Martha, I don't know what it means either), and includes ODBC drivers and I-Net. I quote from the highly informative installation guide: "Informix-CLI is a call level interface comprising a library of C-language function calls that support SQL statements. Based on Microsoft ODBC 2.0 specifications, Informix-CLI is a superset of the ODBC interface." > Which informix package contains the lower level functions > like iConnect etc so we can implement direct X/Open driver > using them? "Informix-CLI is designed for the application programmer who wants to create database applications for accessing Informix databases. An Informix-CLI database application uses the ODBC interface to perform various tasks, including requesting a connection or session with an Informix database, sending SQL requests to the database, defining storage areas and data formats for the results of requests, requesting SQL results, processing results and reporting errors." If this doesn't sound like what you're looking for, you might want to look at the Informix-TP toolkit which allows you to write XA compliant apps.
