INFORMIX ANNOUNCES GRAPHICAL WORKFLOW CLASS LIBRARY FOR INFORMIX-NEWERA USERS Staffware to Provide New Class Library as Part of Informix's Worldwide InSync Partner Program MENLO PARK, Calif. (May 31, 1995) -- Informix Software, Inc., the leading provider of parallel processing database technology, today announced that Staffware, a leading independent workflow automation software vendor, will develop and support a class library that will allow application developers to create INFORMIX-NewEraapplications that are Staffware workflow-enabled. Staffware, located in the United Kingdom, is the latest class library partner to join Informix's worldwide InSync Partner Program. The Staffware class library will provide NewEra developers with an open interface to utilize Staffware's workflow engine and give them the ability to automate their business processes for workflow environments. Paper intensive businesses, such as insurance claims processing, would benefit greatly with a workflow methodology that dictates how claims are routed from one person to another for processing. With the Staffware class library, NewEra developers can control these information processes. "Class libraries give NewEra developers an edge in application development,"said Geoff Roach, director of product marketing for Informix. "With this class library, developers can easily and quickly incorporate proven workflow functionality into their applications. Developers can focus more of their time and resources on building other parts of an application." Class Libraries and InSync Partner Program Staffware is the latest class library partner to be included in Informix's InSync Partner Program. Class library partners deliver reusable building blocks of code that are then "plugged into" NewEra applications. These blocks of code enable developers to incorporate business rules, such as those for accounting and inventory management, or to integrate application-specific functionality, such as database connectivity, document imaging and workflow, and business graphics. NewEra class library partners have the flexibility to build class libraries in C, C++, INFORMIX-4GL, and NewEra code. Current class library partners include TMS for document imaging, Soft-tek International for business graphics, Autodesk Inc. for CAD/CAM integration, MITI Corporation for production report writing, and Lenel Systems for multimedia-enabled NewEra applications. Class library partners are just one type of "best-of-breed" third party partner in Informix's InSync Program. Today the InSync Program has built alliances with over 300 independent software vendors (ISVs) who develop and sell products that build on the strength of Informix database servers and tools. InSync Partner products range from database system management to application development, and desktop query and analysis tools. About NewEra NewEra is a graphical, object-oriented, client/server development environment for enterprise computing. The product features a flexible database application language, and productive visual programming tools which include an application builder to graphically manage application components; a window painter to streamline the building of graphical applications; and an interactive debugger to analyze and debug NewEra programs in a graphical environment. The product also supports reusable class libraries , all within a client/server-ready package that supports open connectivity to Informix and non-Informix relational databases. Availability The Staffware class library will be sold and supported by Staffware and is planned for release in Q3 1995. Pricing will be announced at the time of shipment.
