Large Informix Database's on Sun Enterprise Servers.

Our current mainframe (MVS, Supra v135) system supports 350 users. The 45GB production database (300 tables, 4500 elements) takes about 1 million hits/hr during the day, and double that at night in batch. Because of the integration of the data, we can't run more than the daytime hit rate and still deliver reasonable response. The nighttime throughput is only achieved by running 15 parallel tasks, each looking at a different region's data. This system is not being downsized. It will be redeveloped in the wake of a BPR project. We plan to take advantage of the parallelism inherent in both Informix and the SUN servers, and are happy that they can do the job. However, when it comes to estimating hardware, I'd like to find someone (several, ideally, and organize a site visit) who matches the the first three on the list below, and as many of the others as possible..... a. Runs Informix. (The later the better) b. Runs SUN Enterprise 6000 or 5000. (not interested in others) c. Has 300+ production users on a single database. .............................................................. d. Sustains hit rates of 3 million/hour or higher. e. Has come from IBMs MVS. f. Does bulk data entry on the database.(40-80 operators) g. Runs several 50-100GB databases. h. Does statistical calc/update on the database. i. Has client server applications. j. Runs large ad hoc queries. k Has OO applications. Anthony Morse. DBA.
