Logging To Tape

Hi All, I'm very new to Informix, my background is mainly Oracle RDB (ex Digital Database) We're in the processing of implementing an Informix Database on a Digital Unix Tru-Cluster. I've been told that it is standard practise for Informix to Log to Tape as part of the continuous logging process. I believe we have 16 10Mb Log files and these are dumped to tape as transactions are completed and the log files released. My question, is it standard practise to dump to tape? What are the issues as regards logging to disk? Archives are done nightly to tape. We're using Informix 7.23 (again, I think) Thanks in advance, Rob.
