In further researching this, it looks like the behavior of IBM AIX and HP-UX is similar, only the number of segments per process that will get you into trouble is different. With HP/HP-UX, if a process references > 2 shared segments in rapid fire order (ie the rate of change of the last 2 sseg references within a process' time quantum is high...) then the process slows way down. With IBM/AIX, the magic number is apparently 10. Much less obnoxious I think. Thanks for sharing your observations. Please post on the results of the KAIO investigation, I've heard others say they've had a hard time with HP-UX KAIO, but have never heard a definitive conclusion.
